  • The Mediterranean horseshoe bat is predominantly a cave bat, finding shelter in caves, chasms, mines, and less frequently in buildings. It hunts mainly in areas with dense vegetation, with a developed arboreal covering, such as riparian galleries, hedges and woods, and deciduous forests.

  • Spring, Summer and Autumn. However is is difficult to see because it is a rare specie with nocturnal activity.

  • The Mediterranean horseshoe bat feeds on nocturnal butterflies, mosquitoes and beetles, which it captures during flight.

  • It is estimated that the Portuguese population of this species is inferior to a thousand individuals (Source The Red Book of Portuguese Vertebrates, 2005).
