  • The Eurasian golden oriole is a passerine bird with an exuberant colouration and a strong red beak. The male has a yellow general colouration, with black wings, tail and ocular spot, the female and young have a green dorsal surface, white ventral surface with stripes, and yellow flanks and abdomen. It can measure up to 25 cm long.

  • The eurasian golden oriole exists in riparian bushland, oak woods, mixed woods, orchards, cork and holm woods. While it is hard to see this bird, it can be detected by its melodious calling.

  • Spring and Summer

  • The Eurasian golden oriole feeds on butterfly grubs captured on the tree tops, on other invertebrates and, during summer, on fruits.

  • The Portuguese population of this species is estimated to be between 100 thousand and 500 thousand couples.
