Hospedaria do Convento (Convent Hotel) is part of the historical complex of Santa Maria de Aguiar, located in Portugal, in Guarda District, 3 km away from Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, along the road connecting this village and county´s headquarters to the parishes of Almofala, Escarigo and Vermiosa.

This historical complex helps to write the Iberian Peninsula History. It was definitively integrated in Portuguese territory in 1297, thanks to the Treaty of Alcanizes, under which the Portuguese King Dinis came to hold political sovereignty over the Riba-Côa region, where it is located.

Preserving the traditional designation of Hospedaria do Convento (Convent Hotel), this new family-run hotel establishment is now opened to visitors looking for the Riba-Côa region, thus somehow continuing the tradition begun in the 12th century of welcoming the pilgrims traveling on the route to Santiago de Compostela, in Spain.

With no neighbours in a radius of about 3 km, inserted in the historical environment that centuries ago saw it born, and framed by a multi-hundred-year-old oak forest, it was conceived as a suitable refuge for those who seek rest in an atmosphere of peace in intimate contact with the past and with nature.

Its decoration was done according to the owner’s taste, that live there, integrating their pieces of art and collection, without dispensing all the comforts that modern hotel units provide.

As a result, the Convent hotel offers, in addition to the comfort of a hotel unit (central heating, swimming pool, Turkish bath and tennis court), the peculiarity of having a library that can be used by guests, serving buffet breakfasts, having a glassed acclimatized loggia for meetings, that opens to the surrounding landscape, where one can see the hill where the historical village of Castelo Rodrigo stands.

All rooms are different, retaining the traditional and intimate characteristics. The unit offers free wireless to the guests in the communal spaces and outdoor swimming pool for the summer season.
