On November 2016, with CIMAA - Comunidade Intermunicipal do Alto Alentejo, waspublished the guide “Alto Alentejo - ainda somos um segredo” (High Alentejo we are still a secret – in Portuguese) presenting a different Alentejo where, in the serenity of the plain, stands São Mamede mountain. It has trails, activities, restaurants, where to stay and what to do and visit in Alto Alentejo. This is a nook for people who like to walk in nature, pedal on almost deserted roads, climb to the sky in a hot air balloon, ride a horse or just stop and look at the landscape and wait for the sun to go down. There are plenty of castles to conquer, archaeological remains to discover or testimonies of other cultures to find again. There is no lack of restaurants where it is difficult to choose between many regional specialties or accommodation units that now allow you to sleep in the quiet of nature, in different historic buildings or under bold architectural lines. And, everywhere, a revealed secret: the people’s sympathy.
Beira Baixa - Terras de Excelência guide, edited in March 2017, shows a destination where spring paints the best landscapes and where nature is exuberant in the tranquility of the mountains or in the infinity of the skies. Where Lent and Holy Week are deep tradition periods. Where local products are blessed by the lands, where “madeiros” (a huge trunk burned on a public space) warms the hearts of people and where festivals and performing arts attract talent and thousands of young people who expose bodies and minds to music and the warm sun of a summer flooded with colors. This is a land where tradition coexists with modernity and the past is also future. Lets’s find it!!
