In the heart of Serra da Estrela Nature Park is in the village of Mantaigas, always associated with wool.

Recognized since the 12^th century by the great activity of the wool sector, this region has a considerable prestige due to the intrinsic quality of its wool, expertise in wiring, refined aesthetic sense of the final product and unavoidable socio-economic impact in an area where the wool acquired a unique status, being synonymous of regional identity.

In this context, Ecolã, a craft microenterprise with a family origin (3^rd generation), founded at the beginning of the 20^th century aims to perpetuate and disseminate this cultural heritage, preserving the traditional methods but adapting to the current demands.

Its products are 100% wool obtained from sheep of the breed “Bordaleira Serra da Estrela”. Particular emphasis on the Burel always associated with the mountain and the shepherds with their covers, which authenticity results from a set of specific operations in the manufacturing process, making it tighter, durable and waterproof.
