Truly remarkable tree, should be between 400-500 years old, and contemporary of the period of Portuguese Discoveries. It is one of the chestnut trees with larger trunk girth measured up to this time in Portugal. To give an idea of the size of the trunk, 13 men are needed to embrace it. It is also known by the older people of that town as the "Matchmaker tree", according to tradition, it's good luck to the bride and groom.
