  • This specimen is one of the oldest trees in Portugal, being contemporary of Christ - 2,000 years. In ancient times, Tavira was an important sea port and Greeks and Romans passed through there, who may have brought this specie. In this region many traces of these ancient peoples have been found. It takes 5 persons to embrace the trunk of this olive tree, that has a circular crown with an opening that gives access to an ample interior room. It features a rope of wild olive attached to the trunk, forming the doorjamb. Around this monumental olive tree we can find other olive trees and carob trees also millenary.
