This is a tree of remarkable size, contemporary of the Manor. In the Middle Ages it was considered an "ill loved" tree, a poisonous tree associated with death as evidenced by the Latin names (taxus) close to the idea of poison (toxicum); was used in the manufacture of bows and arrows.
